Body Changes
Students can:
- Explain that boys’ and girls’ bodies are different and that there are particular changes during puberty that are part of maturing and becoming an adult (menstruation, wet dreams);
- List four changes in the body of a girl and four changes in the body of a boy during puberty;
- List three male and three female reproductive organs and describe their function;
- know the physical difference between a circumcised and uncircumcised penis;
- Explain what a hymen is;
- Understand that it is impossible to identify through a physical test if a boy or a girl is a virgin;
- Describe that everyone changes at a different pace and in a unique way.
Hygiene
Students can:
- List four general things adolescents can do to keep their body clean.
- List three specific things girls and boys can do to keep their body clean.
Social norms and media
Students can:
- Explain why adolescence can be a confusing/insecure time (bodily changes and influence of peers and media on body image) and that this is a natural part of growing up;
- Describe how peers, media and cultural norms can –negatively – influence their opinion about themselves.
